Kamine Zoological Garden,
the largest zoo in the region

  It is about 2.4 km northwest of JR Hitachi Station. Only ten minutesf or so riding on the bus takes you to Kamine Park, that is one of 100 famous cherry blossom places in Japan. The zoo is in this park and also is a childrenfs amusement park.
  Varieties of animals kept here are mammals (elephant, giraffe, lion), reptiles (python, iguana), birds (crane, peacock, eagle), and in all there are 70 species, 480 pieces.

Open: (March`October) 9:00am`5:00 pm (entrance limit 4:15pm)
(November `February) 9:00am `4:15 pm (entrance limit 3:30pm)

Admission fee: Adult (over 15) \500 (\450 for a member of a group over 30 adults or children)

Let us introduce some noteworthy topics.
  The visitors a year are about 270,000. On the third Sunday of every month, visitors can experience feeding elephants (11:00 am and 2:00 pm) and rhinoceros.
  Staffs are now training giraffes, too.
  In summer only in the limited period in the first half of August, the zoo is open from 6:00 to 9:00pm, to show the life of animals at night.

  A monkey with white hands was born 4 years ago and they call it ga godfs hands monkeyh.
  And in this zoo, they are trying to breed black rhinoceros. It is an unprecedented trial and no other institutes in Japan have ever tried.
  The zoo will come to the 50th anniversary in 2007. A memorial event including improvement works of the park is going to be held.
