Have you ever tried soba
(buckwheat noodle)?
In Japan, soba and udon (flour noodle) have been eaten along with rice
since old times. Recently soba has become more popular because of its
well-balanced nutrition which works to prevent life-stile-related
illnesses in later
years.
You see soba shops here and there in the city. We want to introduce one of
them, Kaikaken (海華軒)that is near the Hitachi Post Office.
In the shop, thick beams, massive tables, old Japanese furniture pictures on the wall, and jazz
music at a comfortable volume make a calm and cozy atmosphere.
Most of the standard menu of soba and udon are served here both in a hot
soup and with a cool broth with various ingredients. If noodles do not suit
your taste, you can choose rice dishes such as sashimi (raw fish),
tempura, fried seafood, pork cutlet, etc.
Lunchtime menu includes several sets of soba or udon and donburimono (rice
with various toppings in one bowl) are served. They are popular among
working people and also are the recommended by the shop.
The evening menu, has well-matched dishes served with alcoholic drinks,
such as sake from many regions in Japan, beer, and “rice wine”. White wine is
made from brown rice and red wine from original species of rice. Of course, coffee, tea, and several kinds of fruit juice can
be also enjoyed.
If you want to have a dinner party here, the maximum is 28 people and the
fee for each one is 2000 yen (five dishes containing sashimi and tempura),
3,000yen or 4,000yen.
You will find the owner’s honest concern for his customers in the
carefully prepared dishes, the reasonable price, and the
comfortable atmosphere.
Parking space in front of the shop is limited. We recommend you to go on foot.
