Technical features and characteristics of the company The company started business by contracts with Kokubu and Taga Works of Hitachi, Co., Ltd. It expanded sales to works of Hitachi Co., Ltd. in all areas of Kanto. Since 1983 it has enlarged business to other enterprises, such as Ricoh, Sony and Tokyo Electron all over Japan. The driving force for the expansion of sales are plate manufacturing technology of containers and new fabrication machines such as bending robots to support the shops. A NC turret punching press machine does work for 24 hours a day to handle jobs. A new cleaning machine by use of ionized water was added recently with higher quality of the products and better condition for working environment of the shop. Development of new technology with industry-university-government projects is going on for such as fabrication of magnesium alloy plate. The company pays much attention to better the environment to acquire the KES certificate. At the same time it was given Rank ghaah from Standard & Poorfs Japan SME which surveys the management and financial affairs of enterprises. As a successful result of industry-university collaboration cleaning system of products by ionized water eliminated the use of solvents. It brought an award from Hitachi Regional Technical Support Center for Creative Product for 2006 . The company has a re-employment system after 60 years old to keep long employment and to keep the manufacturing technology at shops. The present shops at Moriyama-cho, Hitachi-shi constructed in 1966 have 9,468 m2 of buildings on the 18,742m2 of site. The site is located at convenient point for transportation via roads. The company has about 200 employees in machining, plate and assembling shops. They work with high motivation in fine conditions. |

Business Policy and Message of President Watanabe. (Summary of interview) President Watanabe is the forth president of Taiyokogyo Co., Ltd with the history for 61 years.  He was raised at the family of his grand father, the founder of the company , and his father ,the second president. He followed the former president as a young president and has vitality to run the company at the age of 33. He shifted from the management policy of the founder gnot compete with near-by industriesh to have business from adjacent areas and now tries to have collaboration with near-by industries for business. It aims to keep medium scale production of broad areas based on its manufacturing technology for plate structures since the start of the company. It is on its rise of management by increasing business for electronic industries for IT fields. The company tries to have flexible production capabilities to cope with rapid changes for highly fine products , and it also tries to add manufacturing technology to make products with high quality quickly and with lower cost for the customers requirements. The company employs new workers every year to have all age group to keep the technology at the shops and has re-employment system for elderly. The company is active for technical educations, group improvement proposal activity, circle activities and employee welfare programs. It was clear that employees are happy at work from the manner they showed when the reporters had a look at the shops. |

| Reportersf note The first impression is the devotion with vitality of the young President Watanabe who took the office three years ago at the age of thirty. He has many ideas to expand the business with new environment facing the company founded by his grand father. Almost all machines at shops are new although the company has 60 years of history. Machines lay with abundant space for workers. It looks a result of new management policy. Customers for large containers are located far from the company. We wondered if it is a load for the company. The president is now trying to increase the business from the near-by industries. |
